PKM
What is a PKM?
A Personal Knowledge Management / Manager
- a note taking system that links, searches, connects, and generally helps me remember lots of stuff.
- it also helps me write and publish, see my Digital Garden
- it helps me believe that I have a place where everything can go. That helps me believe I won't lose details and ideas. Belief and Trust are important for staying creative.
- it helps me be a better #coach among a lot of other things.
Terms Related to PKM
Zettelkasten, an older term based on connecting note cards.
Obsidian, my favorite and most used note taking app of the last few years. (Actually, it's by far the app I use the most of any apps!)

How I Evolved into Using A PKM
My History of Note Taking
- In my 20s I used mostly paper notebooks, and wrote in computers, too, but I think I lost most of that.
- (Did I really lost it? Where might that be? I'm a digital hoarder, so maybe I have that on an old backup drive? Is it worth looking for?)
- In my 30s I got an iPhone, and probably moved all my notes into Evernote.
2. Evernote got too funky and clunky and was beat out by the clean, lean Bear.app, and my Markdown use took off. - In my 40s and early 50s, I really started writing a lot.
- Several Akimbo Courses from Seth Godin were a big influence.
- I bought into the PKM idea and Obsidian holds my current note system.
- Ongoing
- I still use paper notesbooks a bit
- My MacBook Air is my go-to thought machine.
- I do daily dictation into otter.ai on my iPhone.
- I use AI more and more to help me process my ideas and look things up.
- I'm doing this with caution, as I don't want AI to do my writing for me. But AI is great at research and organizing what has become a huge amount of note data.
