MacWhisper Audio Transcription IS The Best

MacWhisper is my new favorite audio transcribe tool. It lives on your local machine, and will transcribe any type of audio of video file you throw at it.

I used to use otter.ai, but MacWhisper is surpassing it with the direction connection to Obsidian. See https://otter.ai

MacWhisper will also take your dictation on your local machine in any window. Like the built in iOS dictation, but better.

There is a mobile version I've not tried yet, since I'm able to use my favorite iOS sound capture tool.

My Basic MacWhisper Transcription Steps:

  1. Record the audio file in the sound tool of you choice.
  2. Save the file to the cloud (I use Dropbox)
  3. MacWhisper...
    1. has to be open (usually on my office machine).
    2. sees the the file in the watch folder,
    3. it transcribes it, and
    4. sends the transcription to my obsidian vault as a .md file
      1. which is native to Obsidian and perfectly readable and editable, right away
  4. OR View the file in the MacWhisper app itself
